Alon Altaras

Alon Altaras was born in Jaffa, Israel, in 1960. He specializes in modern Italian literature and culture, and translates Italian literature into Hebrew - Natalia Ginzburg, Antonio Tabucchi, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Tommoso Landolfi, among others. Altaras has taught at the Universities of Trieste and Sienna, and writes for l`Unita and La Republica. He has published three novels and four books of poetry. Altaras has been awarded the Prime Minister`s Prize (2000), the Italian Ministry of Education Prize for his translations and for promoting Italian culture in Israel (2003), and the Dan David Foundation Award (2008).
