Aharon Appelfeld |
| Aharon Appelfeld, born in Romania in 1932, was sent to a concentration camp at age 8. He escaped and spent 3 years in hiding before joining the Russian army. Appelfeld is a professor of Hebrew in Ben Gurion University. He has been visiting Professor at Boston, Brandeis and Yale Universities, and visiting Scholar at Oxford and Harvard. Appelfeld`s fiction on the Holocaust has recieved worldwide acclaim, and has been published in 26 languages. He has received the Brenner Prize, the Bialik Prize, the Israel Prize (1983), the Prix Médicis Etranger (2004) and the Nelly Sachs Prize (2005).
