Dorit Orgad |
| Dorit Orgad was born in Neisse, Germany, in 1936, and came to pre-state Israel as a young child. She studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received a PhD in Jewish philosophy from Bar Ilan University. She has taught at high school and at several academic institutions, including Bar Ilan University and Levinsky College of Education. She writes for newspapers and magazines and tutors writing groups. Orgad has published three books for adults and 58 books for children. She has received several awards include the Lamdan Prize (1981), the Ze`ev Prize (1987), the Bernstein Prize (1987), the Hadassah Prize (2000), the World Zionist Organization Award for her books about Israeli children from Ethiopia (2005) , and the Verghereto Award (Italy, 2006). Her book Kalkidan has been nominated "the most loved" youth novel by Israel`s Ministry of Education for 2007; it has also received the Minister for Culture`s Prize (2007). Her work has been translated into nine languages. |
