Nathan Yonathan |
Nathan Yonathan (1923-2004) was born in Kiev, Ukraine, grew up in Petah Tikva, and lived on Kibbutz Sarid from 1945 until his death. He began publishing in 1940. After completing his BA and MA in Hebrew and General Literature, he taught at high school and university levels, both in Israel and the US. He was for many years chief editor of the Sifriat Poalim Publishing House. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Israeli Broadcasting Service and chairman as well as president of the Israeli Writers` Association. Best known as a poet and lyricist, Yonathan published 16 collections of poetry, a novel and a number of children`s books. He was awarded both the Bialik Prize and the Prime Minister`s Prize.
