Moshe Ben-Shaul |
Moshe Ben-Shaul (1930-2007), born in Jerusalem, was a seventh generation native Israeli. He fought in the 1948 War of Independence and at the end of 1956 moved to France to study painting and theater history. He edited various journals for young adults, and was literary editor for the daily newspaper Maariv as well as for the monthly cultural magazine, Moznayim. He was also one of the editors of a new literary magazine Revyia Had-Pa`amit. Ben-Shaul served recently as Israel`s cultural attache in Paris. He wrote poetry, short stories and children`s books, and also translated works by Daudet, Apollinaire, Cocteau, and Rimbaud into Hebrew. His poems have been published in 13 languages.
