Natan Yonatan

Natan Yonatan (1923-2004) was born in Kiev, Ukraine, grew up in Petah Tikva, and lived on Kibbutz Sarid from 1945 until 1991. From 1991 until his death, he resided in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. Yonatan began publishing in 1940. After completing his BA and MA in Hebrew and General Literature, he taught at high school and university levels, both in Israel and the US. He was for many years chief editor of the Sifriat Poalim Publishing House. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Israeli Broadcasting Authority and chairman as well as president of the Israeli Writers' Association. Yonatan was awarded many awards, including the Lamdan Prize (1959), the Ze'ev Prize (1971), the Prime Minister's Prize (1975), the ACUM Golden Feather Award (1983), the Fichman Prize (1983), the Brenner Prize (1984), the Alterman Prize (1987), the Wertheim Prize (1988), the Bialik Prize (1990), the Shin Shalom Prize (1995) and the ACUM Award for Lifetime Achievement (2003).
