Nira HarelAGE: 13-15
Merav, a girl from an average Israeli family with three children, tells the story of her family`s adoption of Roni, an abandoned baby girl with Down Syndrome. When her mother decides to bring home a Down Syndrome baby, a wave of hostile reactions surges through the family. Merav hates the idea, but can`t stop wondering: "If I`d been born retarded, would they have taken me home or not?" Eventually, she learns to accept the change and Roni becomes a member of the family. "I used to think," muses Merav, "that if parents have a problem child they love it less. But in our family it`s the other way round. Roni is the center of the household."
