Shulamit Lapid. The Girl of Dreams

AGE: 12-15

This well-structured novel about urban Israeli youth tells the story of a relationship between a 7th-grade boy and girl. Merav and her friends are not like other boys and girls their age. They are active in the scouts and they work twice a week in a pizzeria to raise money for a new building for the scouts. Merav wants to invite her friend, Guy, home but does not dare – her parents and Guy`s parents were once friends, but they quarrelled and the children suffer. The problem becomes acute when their teacher assigns them to co-edit the class newspaper. Merav has a brilliant idea for the newspaper: they will give their classmates a questionnaire entitled "Describe your dream boy/girl." But when will the busy young editors find time to prepare it?
At the end of the novel, the two families make up and Guy asks Merav to be his girlfriend. She, and no other, is the girl of his dreams.
