We are proud to announce the publication of Apples from the Desert, a comprehensive collection of Israeli short stories in Japanese. The selection presents to the Japanese reader stories by Shai Agnon, A.B. Yehoshua, Judith Hendel, Dan Tsalik, Orly Castel-Bloom, Shulamith Hareven, Adi Zemach, Dan Pagis, Adir Cohen, Atallah Mansour, Nicanor León, Savyon Liebrecht, Uri Orlev, Shulamit Lapid, Michal Govrin, and Irit Amiel. This pioneering book is the result of the initiative and dedicated leadership of Efrat Michikawa of the Israeli Embassy in Japan. All stories were translated by Naotso, the leading translator from Hebrew to Japanese, and the inspiring mentor of young translators who continue her work.
