Residency for Emerging Hebrew Literary Translators

Calling all literary translators from Hebrew to Arabic, English, Russian, Amharic, French, German, Spanish, and Italian:

As part of the Institute’s aspiration to encourage the growth of a new generation of Hebrew literature translators, we invite translators in the field of fine literature – prose or poetry – to apply for a 9 day residency from July 8-16 at Selina Mantur in the Jerusalem hills. Participants will take part in meetings with key figures in the world of translation and editing and in workshops guided by senior translators who will share their professional experience.

Application requirements:

  • Active engagement in literary translation
  • Experience in translation in the field of prose or poetry (plays are not relevant for this project)
  • Publication of a translation (story or poetry collection) in print or digital media
  • Commitment to attend the entire residency program (all days)

Interested parties are asked to send:

  •  A translation sample from Hebrew to your language of specialization, of approximately 1000 words;
  • The original Hebrew text;
  • Your resume

The samples will be reviewed by a professional committee that will include experienced translators.

Responses will be sent by May 12, 2024.

Suitable candidates will receive funding for 8 nights of accommodation in a double room.
