Amit Varshizky

Dr. Amit Varshizky is an Israeli writer and historian who lives in Berlin. He holds a PhD from the School of Historical Studies at Tel Aviv University and was research fellow and a lecturer at various academic institutions in Israel and Germany. His major fields of interest are the intellectual and cultural history of Weimar Germany and the Third Reich, European racism and antisemitism from the Enlightenment period tothe mid-20th Century.
His articles and reviews on these topics have appeared in leading peer review journals. His book The Metaphysics of Race: Science and Faith in the Nazi Worldview (Open University of Israel and Yad Vashem, 2021) won the Goldberg Prize on behalf of the Open University of Israel for the best research book for 2019 and the “Bartal Am VeOlam” Prizeof theIsrael Historical Society for outstanding book for the year 2022. An English version of the book is due to be published by Routledge.
His novel Face of Janus (Carmel publishing house) was awarded the Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Award in the field of Hebrew literature for the year 2021 (Early career award) and the Dudu Geva Literature Award for the best alternative book for 2022. In addition to his scholarly and literary work, Varshizky is a public intellectual who regularly contributes articles on politics and culture to Israeli newspapers.
