Israel Segal

Israel Segal (1944-2007) was born in Jerusalem. He received an ultra-Orthodox education and studied at the Ponivezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. During his military service, he left religion and became secular. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and started his career as a reporter at the now defunct magazine, Ha`olam Hazeh. In the 1970s, he worked at Kol Israel, the national radio station, and later at Israel TV where he was a correspondent, editor and anchorman. During the last years of his life, he was editor of the leading current affairs program at Channel 2 TV, as well as editor and presenter of a cultural program. Segal published three novels and two books for children. My Brother`s Keeper, his last book, became an instant bestseller in Israel and received the Book Publishers Association`s Golden Book Prize (2005).
