Mordechai Tabib

Mordechai Tabib (1910-1979) was born in Rishon LeZion to a prominent Yemenite family. His older brother was the leader of the Yemenite community in Eretz Israel. Tabib worked in agriculture, industry, building, and also served as a guard. During World War II he served in the British Army; later, during the War of Independence, he did editorial work for the Israel Defence Forces. Tabib was active in the central institutions of the Worker’s Movement, and served in the Arab section of the Workers’ Confederation. His first poems were published in 1938, and his first book appeared in 1948.
