Oded Carmeli
עודד כרמלי
Oded Carmeli is an editor, poet, and author; he is the founder of the independent publishing house “Hava Laor” and serves as editor-in-chief of its literary journal, “Hava Lehaba”. Carmeli’s debut novel, Home Economics, exposed the economic structures that both constitute and ultimately destabilize the Israeli bourgeois household. His later works veered into more avant-garde and metaphysical terrain, driven by a desire to transcend the grounding influence of humanist gravity and explore forms of existence that are not necessarily human. The aesthetic spaceship Carmeli assembles in the backyard of Israeli literature is built from extreme experiences and daring formal experiments – culminating most powerfully in his latest book, No One Came or Is Coming or Ever Will Be.
