Ofra Gelbart-Avni

Ofra Gelbart-Avni was born in Tel Aviv in 1947. After studying social work at Tel Aviv University and editing at Bar-Ilan University, she worked as a social worker at Sheba Hospital. Later she worked as a librarian and edited a children’s newspaper. Gelbart-Avni, who works now at Levin Kipnis Center for Children’s Literature in Tel Aviv, is a book editor and holds writing workshops for children. She has published about 40 books for children and youth and one book for adults. She was awarded the International Janos Korczak Prize (1995) for her book Invisible Walls, the Ze’ev Prize (2006) the Prime Minister’s Prize (2013) and the Public Libraries Award for Children’s Literature (2015).
