Shelter, October 7th and After
The short story collection “Shelter” was published in December 2023, shortly after the events of October 7. Edited by Oded Wolkstein and Maayan Eitan and published by the Israeli Institute for Hebrew Literature, the anthology brings together short stories and writings by Israeli and international authors. Each story captures the writers’ initial reactions to the horrific massacre and the ensuing war, exploring language and form rather than presenting polished, finished works of fiction.
“Shelter” was originally printed as a bilingual edition in both Hebrew and English. Recently, the anthology was published in Spanish by Nagrela Editores, translated by Ana Bejarano, Marta Mabrés, and Erica Consoli, and in German by Hentrich & Hentrich, translated by Lucia Engelbrecht.
The anthology includes an introduction by Oded Wolkstein and stories by Elisa Albert, Joshua Cohen, Maxim Biller, Dror Mishani, Tehila Hakimi , Oded Carmeli, Aryeh Attias, Asaf Schurr, Yaara Shehori, and Maayan Eitan.
