China

Chalfi’s poetry reflects a rich, emotive and chaotic inner world, as she wonders about the intriguing similarity between the self, infinitesimal and transient as it is, and the cosmos ‒ infinite and eternal. Both are driven by the same laws. Cosmic chaos faces inner chaos, and understanding the outer chaos is the key to understanding psychological processes and human existence. The poet continually absorbs impressions and experiences from the outside, and wonders at the meaning of the connection between mankind and the cosmos. The conscious processes that are created as a result of these encounters are characterized by inquiry and by the poet’s attempt to understand what is happening inside herself. In this sense, China is not a geographical location, but a metaphor to unexplored realms of the poet’s mind.
