Friendship on the Net

Galia, a shy 15-year-old girl from a small moshav in Israel, talks to people online, on the Chat. There, hidden behind her computer screen, she feels comfortable and it is easier for her to make friends with boys and girls her age. Girls share their joys and difficulties with her, and boys seek her company. Some of them even want to meet her and get to know her better, but she stops all friendships before they become anything more. Because Galia has a secret in her life: she doesn`t want to fall in love…and then be dropped. There is only one boy, Eylam, with whom she forms a special bond. Only he does not ask to meet her or even suggest they talk on the phone. Eventually, Galia finds out that Eylam, too, has a secret in his life, and that is why he avoids even speaking to her on the phone. It is only after Galia and Eylam come to trust each other that they reveal their secrets and help each other overcome their difficulties.

Friendship on the Net is written as a series of dialogues just as they would appear on chat, and it also uses chat language. It does a splendid job of showing up the advantages and dangers of these websites, and how to be careful on them.
