Last Winter
Based on real events in Paris in the 1970s, Last Winter depicts the experience of exile: moments of exaltation followed by stretches of loneliness and helplessness. The protagonist, André Sorrell is modelled on Henri Couriel, a founding member of the Egyptian Communist Party. After years of statelessness and intermittent imprisonment, Sorrell has finally obtained resident status. His confidence grows and he begins to make new revolutionary plans. The last winter of his life seems to be a season of regeneration, but will end in his being murdered at the entrance to his building.
