Motherwolf

A group of abandoned youngsters take over a deserted construction site in south Tel Aviv and build themselves a ramshackle home, which they name Beta. Soon enough, Beta becomes more than just a place to sleep in. It becomes a microcosm of their conflicted minds and an imaginary realm that they create to protect themselves from the outside world and the past. Together, these youngsters represent a patchwork of Israeli society: Maia, an Ethiopian girl who misses the wild landscapes of Africa and couldn’t adapt to the boarding school where she was placed; Orit, the daughter of a drug addict whom no one wants; Hanan, previously a soldier, whose religious world is closing in on him; Petro, the son of a Russian mother who died of overwork; Jonathan, a gifted boy from a transit camp, who guards the secret of insanity in his family; Shlomit, a girl from a respected Jerusalem family whom the others all think of as the legendary unicorn; and Noa, perhaps the main character, whose previous life remains a mystery.

As the plot advances and we come to know the youngsters` dreams and delusions, the boundaries of reality slowly become blurred. When the city decides to demolish Beta and construct an office building on the site, their demons take over completely and they prepare to struggle for their home. During the battle that follows, Petro is killed and Beta goes up in flames. In the dramatic closing scene, the violent uprising and the group`s escape route show their will to fight for their fantasy world, and their refusal to surrender to the reality around them.
