Penguicheese

It takes a great imagination like Nurit Zarchi’s to write such an appetizing tale. Three penguins – Amos, Max and Hans – decide to open a restaurant at the far end of the South Pole. This restaurant serves only one dish: Penguicheese.

Two years go by and finally a ship arrives and its passengers enter the restaurant. They sample the Penguicheese, but – ugh – they dn’t like it and they decide one and all: “This is not food, this is not a restaurant.” But the three penguins don’t accept this. They know that their Penguicheese is good, the best in the world. So they decide to eat it themselves, and indeed the dish is so wonderful that the trio compose an anthem in its honor.

Once again patrons visit the restaurant and the three cooks, who are no longer so interested in selling their Penguicheese to strangers, allow them to taste what’s left at the bottom of the pot. And wonder of wonders – the guests are ecstatic! They even insist on waiting until the penguins prepare a new batch, and in the meantime they write a little song in honor of the Penguicheese. Who knows? Perhaps we’ll get to taste it too, becasuse the cinnamon scent of the mysterious dish is spreading from the South Pole all over the world.
