Priorities – Letter to a Teacher

Avi’s homeroom teacher has asked all the youngsters to make a list of the things that they are interested in, in order of priority, and to write them down in the form of a letter—like in the olden days when people wrote letters to each other. So 12-year-old Avi writes to his teacher, telling her about his thoughts and what is really important to him, like his search for identity; his relations with his Mom and Dad; his attitude towards Nili, who’s in his class and thinks he’s a little weird. And he also writes about the dreams that he has at night, about his fears, about the nature of time, the role of numbers in the world; the pleasure of writing, and more. Through Avi’s letter, the book explores questions that people in general think about. But here, these issues are examined from the vantage point of an intelligent, sensitive adolescent with a sense of humor, who looks at the world around him and tries to face his innermost thoughts and feelings.
