Street Gang

Street Gang is the second book in the Zion series, listed separately on the Author page.

Zion is an abandoned boy. His father is in prison, his mother is addicted to drugs, and he grew up with the Sharoni family in Haifa. After Mrs Sharoni has a baby, Zion is sent to a kibbutz, but he does not do well there, so he returns to his hometown, Beit She`an, to live with his grandmother. She expects Zion to devote himself to his studies and become a doctor, but the street offers temptations of a different kind. A gang of boys, old friends of Zion`s, hangs out in the center of the town, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. Zion notices that they are never short of money, and he suspects that the money has been stolen. Will Zion withstand the temptation? In order to visit  Batya, the girl he loves, Zion finally joins up with the gang and drives with them in a stolen car.

But they are caught by the police. The Sharoni family comes to Zion`s aid, and Zion, whose record is clean, is released. But he realizes that the return to his hometown has not gone well and knows that his grandmother`s house is no solution. The caseworker knows this too; she believes in Zion, and looks for a new place for him. Zion is about to turn over a new page in his life in Jerusalem – a tale to be told in the next book in the series.
