The Agent
The Agent opened a window on the famous Israeli intelligence service, the Mossad. Yaakov Goren, a kibbutz-born Israeli spy, spent 18 years in Beirut under cover as a successful Lebanese businessman. At the time of the Lebanon War which he describes as “the wrong war at the wrong time in the wrong place” Goren returns to Israel together with his Lebanese family. His son Daoud, who was brought up in the spirit of Arab nationalism, begins to hate his father but falls in love with an Israeli girl Dalia, thus intensifying his confusion. He moves to an Arab village, where he meets members of Abu Nidal’s terrorist organization and they enlist him to drive a car with explosives into the Knesset, the Israeli parliament building. The psychological drama reaches its climax at the novel’s tragic end. As Daoud is shot dead, the Israeli media announce the decision to withdraw the army troops from Lebanon.
