The Journey Back There

Fifteen-year-old boy Horev flies with his grandfather to Poland – the Poland of razed Jewish towns and extermination camps – and comes back stronger and more self-assured. During the journey, he gets to know his grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, and also finds his own identity.

At first, Horev is shocked at the thought of going to Poland with his grandfather. The timing is all wrong because an advertizing agency is interested in him and he may become a model. What`s more, Tamar, the girl he loves, has begun to notice him. But his parents pressure him because his grandfather, always silent about the past, suddenly needs to speak out and is joining a high school trip to Poland as a live witness. There, he will also meet Milosh, the man who saved him 60 years ago. As the journey unfolds, Horev`s priorities and perspective slowly change. The group visits the Warsaw ghetto, the extermination camps Treblinka and Maidanek, and other places. Then Horev`s grandfather talks about the day his family was killed and the ordeal at Treblinka where he and his friend Srulik, then just 15, had to spread the ashes of the dead outside the camp. Milosh, a farm boy their own age, saw them and decided to save them. After Horev hears this story, he thinks differently about friendship and reassesses his own relationships.
