The True Story

Suspense, romance and family drama make this novel of ideas a light-hearted read. Daniel Glass, a psychologist, treats patients by writing their life-stories. Michal Shalitt, his half-sister who hardly knows him, is a journalist and interviews him for a newspaper. She comes to believe the story he tells her about herself, their family, and their relationship. She ignores his arrogance, but ultimately, like the reader, she comes to see him as self-indulgent and dangerous. She ends the budding incestuous romance, preferring, like her mother and grandmother, the hard pragmatic truth.

In Daniel Glass, Hareven created a character bordering between megalomania and talent. This intellectually intriguing work is full of snappy dialogue.
