This book creates a beautiful cycle of toy poems – the toys that small children all over the world have, and the special ones that have their own names, like “George” or “Shoo,” or a woolen camel that was found in Nazareth.
Some of the toys are dolls that look like children, like Hagit the Fishergirl who tries to catch fish in a tub, or Naomi, Rita and Olga who sunbathe on the beach, or Shoo who`s got a black face and is always getting lost. Some are animals, like a bear that sleeps in a den, a wooden horse you can gallop on, a blue velvet dolphin and a few monkeys, one of which got lost at Amsterdam Airport, and twelve that sleep in the bed and keep her warm. It`s warm under the covers, just like in Africa! And from the warm bed to wide open spaces: a ship that sails to Treasure Island; a red boat that vanishes; a bucket that empties the sea; a spade for building sandcastles; a kite that reaches the sky; a truck that drives to Tahiti and China; and a train with all kinds of people peeping out of the windows.
The poems come with color photographs that are a feast for the eyes, and so alive you can almost feel the toys.
