Until I Was Born
The novel Until I was Born is written in the form of a family biography. It relates the stories of two Jewish families, one from Turkey and one from Poland, stories that intertwine and blend together. The narrator is Itamar Levy—an offspring of these commingled clans—a representation of the writer himself. As in some of his previous novels, Levy deals with the vicissitudes of Jewish and Israeli fate. In a style reminiscent of the finest storytellers, he blends historical facts, imaginary convolutions and family myths, to create a wondrous alternative tale that is full of both drama and humor.
