This is a sensitive, unusual story about growing up. When Rami`s father loses his job, he goes into depression and there is tension in the family. His Uncle Ziv, who has done time in prison, seeks refuge in spirituality, but mainly gets everyone else into trouble. He leads Rami into committing a crime and the boy is then forced to deal with a local petty criminal. But Rami stands up to him bravely and even helps the police to catch him.

In order to help with the family`s financial problems, Rami finds a job distributing flyers in the afternoons. At the same time he copes with difficulties in school-mainly in math-and his love for Yuli, who is a year younger than him. But he also learns about a herd of fallow deer that has been brought to Israel from Iran. He is really interested in them and when the herd suffers from poisoning, he goes up north as a volunteer and even manages to save a young fawn. The story ends when Rami`s father finds work in Haifa and the family relocates. It`s hard for Rami to leave his old home and his friends, especially Yuli, but eventually he makes new ones and finds comfort working with the fallow deer at the Carmel Nature Reserve.
