What Would Have Happened Had We Forgotten Dov

On publication, this collection of stories was recognized as a true expression of young generation of Israeli writers. Taub conveys the life pulse of young people in Tel Aviv and its outskirts, who in the midst of their daily lives seek small, fleeting consolations in a fragmented world that has lost its meaning. His heroes are “average” young people, not members of the intellectual elite. They live in rented flats and work at casual jobs that they do not find satisfying. Some are already tied down by family life and parenthood, but are not good at accepting responsibility. However, the apathy and routine of their lives do not blunt their emotions or moral judgment, which are aroused in intolerable situations. The book is a brilliant reflection of the mental reality of Israelis in their 20s and 30s.
