What’s Left

Daniel Drori, a successful businessman, has maintained the routine of his work and his marriage for years, until a heart attack stops him in his tracks. Lying in hospital, he looks back along the path he has taken – at the distressed neighborhood where he grew up, at the good things he has done, at the mistakes he has made over the last thirty years. His life is comfortable but the love he once felt for his wife has faded, and he is now overcome by the memory of a deep and passionate love that he experienced in his youth.
When he gets out of hospital, Daniel cannot go on living as before. Suddenly a stranger in his home and in his city, Jerusalem, whose population has changed, he will search out his old love, determined not to let her slip through his fingers again. Will he succeed? What have the years done to him, and to his old love? In this powerful and sensitive novel, by turn sober and stormy, Eli Amir carries his readers along with his hero, a man who is captivating in his longing, in his weaknesses, and in the great love that he will not give up.
