Who Is Passing By?
Curious, alert little Yael peeps out from her balcony and sees everything happening in the street below. She sees both urban nature around her – a puppy, a cat and a bird – and the human landscape outside: a red car, a grandpa on a bicycle and a big tractor. She notices joyfully how each object, animal or person comes into sight for a bit and then disappears. At the end, sees her father among the people in the street below and joins him for a walk around town.
In Yona Tepper’s book, there’s one surprise after another: Yael is surprised at each passerby and tries to guess where they’re coming from and where they’re going. Grown ups will also enjoy the fine details of local life in the illustrations. The book affectionately evokes the naivety of childhood, its tenderness and comfort.
