Mira Meir

Mira Meir (1932-2016) was born in Lodz, Poland, and came to Israel as a young child. She was a member of Kibbutz Nachshon since its establishment in 1950. Meir studied Hebrew language and literature at Tel Aviv University. She worked as editor of books for children and young readers at Sifriat Poalim Publishing House from 1969 to 2010. She also edited a children’s series for Yedioth Ahronoth Publishing House and taught children’s book editing at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Meir published four collections of poetry, 25 books for children and a biography. She was awarded the Ze’ev Prize (1974), an International Andersen Honor Citation (1979), the Ze’ev Prize for Lifetime Achievement (2005) and the Prime Minister’s Prize (2011).
